Overview

Frame Magazine

  • While film and art magazines often focus on reviews, celebrity interviews or current trends, only few offer a deeply curated, time-specific, and context-rich exploration of cinema. For students, artists, and cinephiles who view film as more than entertainment, there is a deficiency of publications that treat films as historical, emotional, and cultural artifacts.

Is it possible to create a magazine that slows down the pace, zooms into selected works, and frames them with the depth and reverence they deserve?

  • Frame is a quarterly arts magazine that presents readers with a detailed view of key cinematic works within carefully selected parameters of time, geography and genre.

  • Frame is for film lovers of all kinds—from creatives and students to curious weekend readers. Whether they are seeking inspiration or a deeper look into how great films are made, these readers want more than just reviews—they want context, stories, and meaning.

I developed a modern cohesive design for Frame magazine utilizing minimalistic layout, contrasting colors and expressive typography. While imagery takes the center stage and sets the atmosphere of a cinema theatre, elaborate articles narrate stories that can satisfy a sophistecated reader.

My inspiration came from black and white films, vintage movie posters and typography across different eras.

I explored classic grid systems of Swiss style but also experimented with breaking them—mirroring the tension between structure and expression that defines great cinema.
