LetterNews
-
While many newsletters focus on delivering information quickly, few offer a thoughtfully designed reading experience that reflects the craft and visual richness of their subject. For members of the Society for Calligraphy & Handwriting, especially those unable to attend meetings in person, there is a need for a publication that not only informs but also fosters a sense of connection, continuity, and belonging.
Can a newsletter function not just as a bulletin, but as a cohesive editorial experience—one that honors the aesthetics of calligraphy while remaining clear,
structured, and engaging? -
LetterNews is a biannual newsletter produced for the Society for Calligraphy & Handwriting and distributed both digitally and in print. It features articles, workshop and class listings, exhibition announcements, and updates on local and national calligraphy events.
-
LetterNews is created for SCH members—calligraphers, students, and enthusiasts of all levels. The audience includes both active participants and those who engage remotely, seeking inspiration, education, and a sense of community within the practice of lettering and calligraphy.

Solution
Building on the existing identity, I led a full redesign of LetterNews, preserving key elements such as the name and overall structure while rethinking the layout system across all sections. The goal was to create a cohesive, modern editorial framework that improves readability, hierarchy, and visual rhythm.
The design balances clarity with expression: structured grids support diverse content types, while typography and spacing reflect the discipline and elegance of calligraphic practice. The result is a publication that is both functional and visually engaging.
